TEK Systems
Thanks to TEK systems
for sponsoring our last meeting!

Last Meeting

After hearing an intro to Effects, we had pizza and met recruiters from TEK Systems. Cairngorm was the main topic of the meeting. Daniel Niland walked us through building a project in Cairngorm and explained what the benefits are to using Cairngorm to achieve an MVC architectured application. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Location

We meet at 801 N 34th St. Seattle WA 98103. That's in the Fremont neighborhood, by the canal, between the Aurora bridge and the Fremont bridge. The Adobe Conference Center meeting room is on the 1st floor of the Plaza building, downstairs from Blue Moon Burgers and Quiznos.

Check out the Location page for an interactive map to our location.

The website is now updated and many things are new.

For example,

  • User Registration is finally here!
  • We have a book library to browse online. You can look through the books we have available, submit requests to borrow books, write reviews and purchase books from Amazon if you like them.
  • Presentations and presenter bio's are now going to be available on a more reliable basis.
  • Web links to helpful sites will be listed under the resources menu item.
  • The "Did you know..." blurbs will help you learn tips for using Flex Builder, how the user group works, and more.
  • An FAQ section for those new to the user group.
  • A contact form if you ever have an idea or need to contact the user group managers for any reason.

We hope that these changes and other improvements that you'll find in the site will be a help to you. Our goal is to provide the resources to the Flex community that will make them better Flex developers.

If you have ides for how we can continue to improve, don't hesitate to contact us about it.

ECMAScript standard decided
Written by Marty Mickelson

The ECMAScript spec that ActionScript is based on has been in a state of indecision. ActionScript was based on the proposed ECMAScript 4 spec. After a long and heated politically infused "discussion", the decision was made to focus on the ECMAScript 3.1 spec.

You can read the full details here.  And Adobe's response here.

SWFs are now searchable!
Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 01 July 2008 00:25

Adobe worked with Google and Yahoo! to make Flash SWFs more than just a black box to search engines! Read the press release here. This has been one of the biggest drawbacks to creating web content in Flash or Flex.
